Exam Information

The Alabama Board offers the following National exams:

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE or EIT)

Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE)

Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS)

Principles and Practice of Land Surveying (PLS)

We also offer our State specific Alabama History and Law of Surveying exam (ALLS)

While each state has its own statutes regulating engineering and land surveying, generally a passing grade of 70 on the national recognized examination in one state will be accepted in other states as fulfillment of their requirements for examination.

The national exams are given twice a year.  The exam dates can be found under dates and deadlines on the web site.

Exam attempts

An exam candidate, if approved to take the exam, is approved for 4 exam attempts within a 5 year period.  Your 5 years starts when your application is approved by the Board to sit for the exam.

In the event the applicant fails to pass after the four attempts, the applicant will be notified the application is closed.  If your application has been closed, you will be required to file another application and update your experience since the first application.  No additional verification, references or transcripts will be required.
